Riverfront Farm uses and distributes
Tri-Forage Horsehae

Horsehae is a very healthy forage alternative to traditionally made hay. It consists of mature grasses the same as used in hay but which are harvested and packaged with a high moisture content in hermetically sealed bags. This maximizes the freshness and feeding value of the forage while minimizing the presence of dust and mould.

  • No chemical fertilizers containing chloride
  • No herbicides
  • No other additives are used at any stage in the growing or packaging of Horsehae

Tri-Forage is hay that is grown as usual, fermented, baled, hydraulically pressed, and then shrink-wrapped.

The bags weigh 60 +/- lbs. The hay lasts well over a year in the bag. Bags can be stored out side, the plastic can be recycled.

1 bag last 1 horse 3 days typically. When you open a bag and shake out a flake it doubles to equal 2 flakes dry.

Once you open a bag or you accidentally puncture one you should feed out the hay within 3 to 5 days.

There is no dust, mold and the hay has a sweet vinegar/beer smell the horses love. When you feed the Tri-Forage you will not have to feed as much grain. Tri-Forage retains 90% of pasture grass nutritional value. The horses keep better on it, and it is great for putting weight on the poor doers, young and competition horses.

There are four different types:

  • Straight Timothy @ 12.5 % protein
  • Timothy/ Alfalfa @ 12.9 % protein
  • Meadow Mix (no alfalfa, contains grasses, clovers, legumes, wild peas, carrot, etc) @ 16 % protein
  • Straight Alfalfa @ 22 % protein

Cost is $14.50 per bag plus mass tax (%5) no matter what mix you choose, working out to about $4 a day per horse. The hay is sold by the palate (30 bags to a palate).

We give quantity discounts to anyone who order a ½ truck (12 palates) or a full truck (24 palates).
